Negative taken for February 24, 1960, Arkansas Gazette article "Oaklawn's Gadgets Dope Out Everything But the Winners," B1:2. The parimutuel department, run by Robert C. Patterson, at Oaklawn Jockey Club in Hot Springs, Garland County, Arkansas, consists of 340 people who accept bets, calculate the odds, count the money, and pay off the winners. In the calculating room, men working rapidly, but without commotion, officially figure the odds before and after each race. F.J. Pemberton, of the American Totalisator Company, has charge of the electronic equipment used at the track, such as ticket stamping machines, electronic tabulating machines, closed circuit televisions, and the tote board in front of the stands.
